Day 5: Favourite RTD era episode.

This is one of those episodes, the more I watch it, the more I love it. It’s really interesting to see how wrong things can go with the Doctor when there’s no companion to back him up and get him out of trouble which makes it feel like he’s at his most vulnerable and you can see it in his eyes.

It also shows doctor who doesn’t need to be a flashy extravaganza to be at it’s best and can run on character interaction. Lesley Sharp acts as the vessel for the midnight entity and she goes from whimpering Skye to frosty demon, effortlessly, and when she meets her end in the form of the air hostess it’s a powerful moment as we see a complete stranger sacrifice herself for the Doctor and everyone on board. I also find things that are psychologically scary to leave the most lingering effect, especially since it’s based on such a simple idea…especially since it’s based on such a simple idea…
